Oyo 2027: I am still in Tinubu government - Adelabu denies rumour of resignation - Daily Post Nigeria

The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, is reportedly considering resigning from his position as he prepares to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election.

Sources within the Presidency and close associates of the minister disclosed that Adelabu may tender his resignation either today or before the end of the week, barring any last-minute changes.

Although the deadline for political appointees intending to contest elections to resign had earlier passed on March 31, Adelabu reportedly met with President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday to formally notify him of his governorship ambition.

The minister was seen at the Presidential Villa following the meeting but declined to speak with journalists afterward.

A source close to Adelabu confirmed that his resignation was imminent, noting that he had already informed the President of his plans and received his support.

โ€œHe will resign soon, whether today or later in the week. He has met with the President and briefed him about his ambition as well as his performance over the past two and a half years,โ€ the source said.

Following his meeting with President Tinubu, Adelabu was also reported to have held discussions with former Osun State Governor and APC chieftain, Chief Adebisi Akande, as well as former Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Chief Pius Akinyelure.

Adelabu, who contested the Oyo State governorship election in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress and again in 2023 on the platform of the Accord Party, has repeatedly expressed interest in running for the seat in 2027, this time under the APC.

Meanwhile, the APC has scheduled its governorship primaries for May 23, 2026, with nomination forms priced at N50 million. The party also announced that the sale of forms will run from April 25 to May 2.

If Adelabu eventually resigns and declares his candidacy, he will join other APC aspirants already in the race, including Senator Sarafadeen Alli, representing Oyo South Senatorial District, and Oyedele Alao, popularly known as Allow Alao.
