A Lagos resident has called for clarification after he was reportedly stopped by officials who claimed he needed a permit before installing solar panels at his property.

The man, who shared his experience in a video circulating on social media, said individuals identified as members of the Monitoring and Compliance Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Housing prevented him from proceeding with the installation.

In the video, the visibly concerned man recorded the officers, who were seen wearing white and brown uniforms, while questioning their authority and the requirement for a permit.

He appealed directly to the Lagos State Government, asking whether the officials were genuinely acting on behalf of the authorities.

“Lagos State Government, are you aware of these people? They are saying we must obtain a permit before installing solar panels. I have never heard of such a rule before,” he said in Yoruba.

The incident comes amid growing adoption of solar power solutions across Nigeria, as many households and businesses turn to alternative energy sources due to rising electricity costs and frequent power outages.

The video has since sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing concern and calling for official clarification on whether such permits are required for solar installations in Lagos State.
