Scott Redding and Alvaro Bautista have been involved in a controversy this year, with the brit accusing the spaniard of having an advantage due to his low weight, arguing for a change in the rules regarding the rider’s minimum weight.

Now it is the turn of Iker Lecuona, who debuted this year in the category with Team HRC colours, to defend his compatriot, as he told crash.net: ‘I am angry about what he says. What Redding does on Instagram, in the social media with Alvaro, comparing, but I think you cannot compare. Like Xavi [Vierge] says, he wins in some areas, I lose in some areas or in the opposite’.

The criticism didn’t stop there, with Lecuona saying that his BMW opponent’s words would not happen in other conditions: ‘I am 100 percent that Redding, when he is on the podium, he doesn’t have this comment! Or when it is raining and he goes fast or if he needs to fight with Alvaro, he can win, not easier, but he can win because is bigger on the bike. So in general, I don’t know, like Xavi says. I’m angry about this comment’.

In Redding’s opinion, it should be remembered, Bautista has benefited due to his weight – 53kg – arguing that this will give him an advantage of 0.2s to 0.4s on a straight, with the Ducati.
