US President Donald Trump has taken down a controversial AI-generated image shared on his social media platform after it sparked widespread criticism, particularly from Christian voices who described the portrayal as inappropriate and offensive.

The image, which quickly circulated online before being deleted, depicted Trump dressed in flowing white garments while appearing to place his hand on the head of an ill individual — a scene many observers said closely resembled traditional depictions of Jesus performing healing miracles.

The visual also featured several patriotic and symbolic elements, including the Statue of Liberty, a prominently displayed American flag, fighter jets flying overhead, and a bald eagle. Other figures in the background included a nurse, a soldier, and a woman kneeling in prayer, further intensifying reactions from critics who viewed the imagery as religiously suggestive.

The backlash followed shortly after Trump posted a strongly worded message attacking Pope Leo XIV, who has been openly critical of U.S. and Israeli military actions in Iran. The timing of both posts fueled additional controversy online.

After deleting the image, Trump addressed reporters, claiming the intention behind the artwork had been misunderstood. According to him, the image was meant to portray him in a medical role rather than a religious one.

“It was supposed to show me as a doctor helping people get better,” Trump explained. “And I do make people better. I make people a lot better.”

Despite the criticism, Trump stood by his earlier remarks about the Pope, insisting he had no plans to retract his comments, adding that he believed the pontiff’s statements were inaccurate.
