A female member of the Man O’War Corps, Dasola Sanusi, has lost her life after gunmen suspected to be kidnappers attacked commuters along the Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye Expressway, a major road connecting Oyo and Ogun states.
The incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as the officers were returning from an outing in Ibadan.
According to information gathered on Tuesday, April 21, the officers came under sudden attack shortly after passing the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) axis. The assailants, believed to be armed bandits, allegedly opened fire randomly on vehicles moving along the highway, creating chaos and panic among motorists.
Despite the unexpected ambush, the officers managed to escape the scene. However, some of them sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were rushed to a hospital in Ago-Iwoye for urgent medical care.
A source familiar with the incident disclosed that the group received news of the attack shortly after it happened, describing the situation as tragic and shocking.
The source further revealed that Sanusi was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital, while another officer identified as Emmanuel, who also suffered gunshot injuries, is currently undergoing treatment.
Additionally, two other female officers were said to have been admitted to the hospital after experiencing severe shock and trauma following the attack.
The death of Sanusi has been described as a painful loss to the organisation, as colleagues mourn her passing and call for improved security along the highway.
The Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye road has in recent times raised security concerns among commuters, with residents and travellers urging authorities to strengthen security presence and curb the activities of kidnappers and armed criminals operating in the area.
