Sasha took years to heal from the heartbreak and has remained single since.

He was everything a girl could dream of, according to everyone around her, and Sasha believes he really loved her because he found her broken and mended her heart.

Fred healed her heart

She told sources that her first relationship was so toxic that she had vowed never to date again, that was until Fred crossed her path.

He had come back to Kenya from the US where he is based, and for two years the smitten man made moves on Sasha until she gave in.

“How we started dating was so natural, and I fell head over heels for him because of his kindness, something that brought back my dented self esteem,” she recalled.

Sasha says that during the first few months of dating, Fred would buy her expensive gifts and ask she liked them because she never knew how to say thanks.

This, she adds, is an important lesson that people should heal after breaking up so that they don’t meet the next person with wounds.

Fred went back to US

After dating for four years, it was time for him to go back to the US, which is how the smitten Sasha ended up escorting him to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

“I cried a river on the day he left because I felt like a piece of me was gone, but I had to let him go back to where he belonged,” she continued.

The first three years since he went back were bliss as they communicated on daily basis, but then the phone calls started dwindling.

Sasha was concerned that the man who would buy a whole hour’s airtime card to call her no longer seemed interested in the long calls.

Fred became stranger

When phone calls started becoming less, he also became aggressive, and efforts to make him come out clean on whether he had found someone else were futile.

“He would be like, ‘nope, I am his dream woman, the mother of his kids,” says Sasha, words that assured her of Fred’s love.

Interestingly, she did not pick on the red flags when she called him one day and a woman picked his call, because he convinced her it was someone from work who picked.

Somewhere along the way, Sasha felt ready to accept the offer of joining Fred in the US, something she had passed on for years because her career was on a high.

Call that changed everything

Instead of the warm reception she expected, she was met by a hostile man who would shout at her for calling when he was driving.

“He is now a complete stranger in all our conversations, but you know when a woman is in love, she will ignore all the red flags,” she noted.

In a life-changing coincidence, a friend whom she had not communicated with for so long called to check up on her.

During the conversation, she asked why they had been friends for long but she’s never seen Sasha with a man, or photos of him on social media.

Truth came out

She opened up about Fred, but brushed it off telling her she wouldn’t know him since he was living in Boston.

As it happened, the friend happened to know a man by the name she had given, but added that he has a wife and a child.

“I told her with a lot of confidence, like the way Jesus knew he would resurrect, that can’t be my man,” she recalled.

The friend insisted that Sasha sends a picture of the man she was boasting about, but before she could reply the friend sent a photo of “her” boyfriend with his wife and child.

Sasha broke down and wept

At the time the photo was sent, Sasha was in a morning briefing with her boss and colleagues, but she couldn’t hold herself together.

“I just remember screaming wuuuiii, ghaii mwathani wa Jesus, but why? Why me, God? And then I started crying,” she stated.

All that while, she was seated flat on the ground, leaving her boss and everyone else in the boardroom confused.

Given her good performance, the employer gave her two weeks off assuming she was fatigued because she wasn’t revealing the reason behind the breakdown.

The revelation saved her by a whisker as she was planning on resigning the next day to work on relocating to the US.

“I call it a blessing in disguise because what if I had resigned from my job then found out? I don’t regret what happened because somehow I started focusing on me and what I am made of,” she posits.

Lessons learnt

Sasha says she is now a bit older and mature, and often laughs at some of the things that made her cry in the past.

“I prefer being alone than being in a relationship where you are all alone and you don’t even have a clue or being with someone who does not respect you,” she underpinned.

In her words, she looks at what some people put up with just to be with someone and reminds herself that peace is priceless.

She is now fully healed and enjoying traveling, discovering new ventures, and investing away from home, which requires a lot of self love and focus.

“I can gamble with everything else in life but not a partner because if you meet the wrong one, they might take your life to a dark path for the rest of your life,” she concluded.

Sasha recently met Samia Suluhu

In better news, Sasha was recently excited to meet Tanzania President Samia Suluhu.

The businesswoman who now lives in Tanzania gloated about the coveted opportunity that she says changed her mindset as she not only experienced royalty but also saw herself in the head of state.

For a continent where women struggle to ascend to power, meeting Samia gave her the feeling that with determination, everything is doable.
