Scores of protesters under the umbrella of RevolutionNow have been arrested by the police in Lagos. The RevolutionNow is propelled by the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, who was also a presidential candidate in the 2019 general elections.

The RevolutionNow protesters had made good their threat to protest alleged bad governance and insecurities across the country.

It was gathered that the protesters were marching the streets from Ojota to Maryland, chanting solidarity songs when the police swooped on them.
The Lagos police command had earlier warned against any form of protests in Lagos on October 1, Nigeria’s independence anniversary day, saying any such protest was unlawful.

But hundreds of protesters stormed the streets to express their grievances against alleged bad governance, insecurity, kidnappings among others in the country, despite the police warning.

Contacted to give accurate number of persons arrested, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, told our correspondent that the police were still collating the figures and would issue a statement later in the day.
