At least eight people have been killed in fresh Russian strikes across Ukraine, including victims of a drone attack on a civilian passenger train, Ukrainian authorities said Monday.

The escalation comes as Moscow continues aerial assaults on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, even amid renewed diplomatic pressure from Washington for a negotiated settlement.

Train Attack in Dnipropetrovsk Region

A drone strike on a moving passenger train in the central Dnipropetrovsk Oblast killed a 75-year-old man and wounded nine others, according to Ukrainian officials.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Kuleba said the locomotive crew immediately halted the train after the strike, allowing passengers to be evacuated and given first aid.

Ukrainian Railways has previously warned of increased Russian targeting of railway infrastructure, describing it as an effort to disrupt mobility and isolate regions.

Casualties in Eastern Ukraine

In Kramatorsk, three people were killed, according to the head of the city’s military administration. The city remains a key Ukrainian stronghold in the eastern Donetsk region, where Russian forces continue to advance.

Elsewhere in the Donetsk region — which Russia claimed to annex in 2022 — two people were killed and 13 wounded in Druzhkivka, regional authorities said.

Additional Fatalities

  • A 55-year-old man was found dead under rubble in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

  • A woman born in 1937 was killed in the northern Chernihiv Oblast, which borders Russia.

Emergency crews continue search-and-rescue operations in affected areas.

Ongoing Conflict

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, triggering Europe’s deadliest conflict since World War II. The war has resulted in hundreds of thousands of military and civilian casualties.

Despite diplomatic efforts, including U.S. calls for a ceasefire and peace negotiations, hostilities remain intense. Railway infrastructure, energy facilities, and urban centres have been frequent targets of missile and drone strikes.

The latest attacks underscore the continued volatility of the conflict and the heavy toll on civilians far from front-line battle zones.
